SPAM, SPAM, SPAM, SPAM OR SPAM?
« on: December 10, 2013, 03:53:14 PM »
Getting quite a lot of spam on the forum at the moment, after a longish period of very little/none.

We do operate a captcha sign-up, where new members must type in characters from a 'random' image. I guess this stops most of the evil spam bots - I have a feeling the latest spam is 'human' spam.

We'll keep an eye on things for a while, delete spam on sight, and if necessary tighten up the sign-up procedure for new members.

In the meantime, if you are an honest MTBer and your new forum account gets deleted for no apparent reason, my apologies. Maybe you should change your name to something other than Gjs.HMzz7jy00 or whatever it is...  ;)

You better not be using this as an excuse just to remove my account!

Right, it's like that!

Well today the docs gave me the all clear to start riding again in a few weeks but if I still don't post anything up on the forum you'll know why. It's not because I can't ride anymore, I just don't want to ride with you!

P.s. see you at the pub / Vietnamese on Thursday!

I don't know a lot about computers or servers etc! but I know a car forum I use was wiped off the map a few weeks ago through a virus! and that had apparently the best security you can get!  :(
You only need two tools in life - wd-40 and duct tape. If it doesn't move and should, use the wd-40. If it shouldn't move and does, use the duct tape.

Yep it can happen Paul. Fingers crossed...

Anyone who has admin or moderator priveleges on here please feel free to pitch in with the spam post deleting/spammer member account deleting - it's pretty obvious which are spam/spammers.

I used to put bans on dodgy users IPs, domains, etc. I think it helped a bit, for a while at least. It takes time which is a pain in itself though. I'll keep my eye out Dom and help when I see anything.
Maybe, just maybe, one bike isn't enough after all

thanks Bils, don't want to tempt fate but we seem to be keeping them at bay at the moment.
