Yeah you don't want to crack that carbon frame on those nasty sharp rocks!  :P ;)
yep, need to get a downtube guard fitted sharpish, can't decide whether to go for an oem Ibis one or an aftermarket carbon jobbie I've seen on ebay though. The Ibis one is longer and covers more area but its just 'orrible plastic, hmmmm

Loving the old school toe clips!  :)
And me ;)
Although a few friends are telling me to go flats without toe clips or SPD's but I'm too stuck in my ways, I might have another go with SPD's but I didn't like them at all last time I tried.

Go flats then. Toe clips are far more annoying than beneficial.  ;)

Shin/knee pads! Bonus protection  from brambles and stray dogs  8) Anyway toe clip pedals can do some damage too!  :-\

SPDs are far better for that ability to pull up than toe clips. But yes you are clipped in and pain resulting from tangling with the bike in an off slightly more likely than flatties, but no worse than toe clips. You can sometimes get a foot down more readily from flats in a dodgy situation, but once you're used to SPDs they're no worse than toe clips for that.

With shin/knee pads its just more shit to carry round though, one of the lads I rode with at Glyncorrwg last month brought them with him, he proceeded to stuff them into the camelbak for the whites climb and then put them on when we got to the top, too much hassle. They don't look very comfy either. Probably only ever entertain the idea if I went to an uplift day at somewhere like Antur Stiniog.

The only problem I've ever had with toe clips is a couple of times at slow speed when I've had to come to a sudden dead stop, got my foot caught and toppled over, into gorse bushes I might add!!! I wear them quite lose so flicking my foot out has never been a problem but I like the feeling of security they give to stop my feet sliding forward on the pedals and I can pick up & flick the backend with them while riding.  ;)

Joe recently managed this without toe clips

Simon in the brambles on Rhossili  ;D  and yes, I did put my down my bike, walk back to where he lay, take my gloves off, take off my backpack, rummage around in it for my iPhone, get the phone out of its cover and then take a picture before helping him up.........what else are freinds for!?!?!?!  :D

 :D :D :D

Trust me Ian, as an ex toe clips rider. I rode SPDs for a while off-road before going over to flatties.  I use SPDs on the roadie, and I might just stick SPDs back on my hard tail. I would NEVER go back to toe clips! 8)

I had these on my commuter until I discovered 5.10 shoes.

Mini clips, easy to get in and out of, no straps involved:

Scree slopes?  They sound fun.  Any plans to make a visit any time?
rode them back a few months this ago they are fun. There's a very scenic route round to worms head too(one to be ridden by day though some parts would be scary by dark I reckon). Nice bike Ian BTW Andy is right with the SPD straps thing IMO :-) b

Disappointingly I can't find any images worth posting on here when I've searched for 'bondage'... I have had to warn MrsP that she might find some dodgy search results now though.  ;)
