Forum costs...
« on: May 21, 2012, 01:52:02 PM »
<<Topic split and locked just to keep the main message in the public eye  ;)>>

As you know I recently did a bit of work to get the MTB Pigs domain, website and forum back up and running after our old host went bust and left us in the lurch just after we paid them for renewal.

After shopping around I have signed up to a three year hosting deal with a large, well-established and reputable web host that generally gets good reviews from users and meets all of our needs (ie able to run the forum software). I signed up for three years to get a very good price - I know that this is in itself a risk but it's a calculated one.

I also renewed the mtbpigs.co.uk domain for another two years with the domain registrar that I use in work (so now you can use mtbpigs.org.uk or mtbpigs.co.uk).

All this has I'm afraid come at a cost. I am currently out of pocket to the tune of 92.62 (but this is for 2/3 years remember), so I'm asking for a contribution from forum users. We currently have 166 forum members, but quite a few of these either no longer use the forum or never did. But I reckon we must surely have 45 or so active/regular users so I'm asking for a donation of 2 from as many users as possible towards the cost.

I suggest using Paypal - this should be pretty convenient all round (as long as you have a Paypal account!) and will help me to work out whether or not I've covered the cost. The email address that I have listed in my profile on this forum is also my Paypal email address.

In the fairly unlikely event that I end up with a surplus I would propose either:

 - adding it to MTB Pigs funds towards future expenses
 - donating it to Medecins Sans Frontieres, a pretty decent organisation

Should the surplus situation arise I'll take a poll on it.

Thanks
Dom

2 is fine as long as enough people chip in. If there's a big shortfall I might make a further funding call.

See how it goes...

Done!  :)

For info for everyone. I sent it as a personal payment flagged as money owed. And I funded it by bank transfer. NOT credit card, that would have incurred a 27p fee for me. I guess funding from a PayPal balance would be ok too. HTH.

Cheers Bils, Andy.

Remembered there was 4 left in the kitty from a couple of Thurdays ago which I had in my custody. I've taken a unilateral decision to put it towards church funds...
