Title: 27.5+ and Clyne mud<tm>
Post by: David on June 22, 2017, 02:02:20 PM
What's the Pigs' concencus when it comes to 27.5+ tyres and (the mud in) Clyne?

I've got a friend at work that is looking into buying a new hardtail, mostly for riding in Clyne. He's an experienced road biker, but quite new to mountain biking. The options are a bit limited as he is buying through the Cycle to work scheme; atm he's looking at a Diamondback Heist 3, which seems like a reasonable choice to me, but he's a bit worried about the 27.5+ tyres and the general Clyne conditions  ;D

So, anyone's got any experience riding plus-tyres (on a hardtail) in Clyne?

Ask Gavin and Chris later what they think of plus size tyres as they have +wheels. From my own limited experience they might be the best choice for slimy Clyne. There was a review on YouTube from a guy testing 29" and 27.5"+ wheels on the same bike where he found he was consistently faster on the +size tyres. And this was in slimy, greasy Forest of Dean.

The Heist is quite highly rated as a more budget rig with quality spec.

The Sonder Transmitter might also be worth a look.

Thanks for the input Justin! I think he made up his mind and bought something already, but I don't know what. I might have convinced him to join a Thursday-ride, so hopefully we'll see another hardtail in Clyne pretty soon!
